Backpacker Rail Fare​​

Discounted fares of up to 40%* off the full adult fare on Queensland Rail Travel long-distance services are available to international visitors to Australia.​

Whether you’re visiting Australia for a holiday, or here on a working holiday, a rail travel pass gives you the flexibility to hop on and off and travel to see more of Queensland. We offer two different travel passes to suit your itinerary.

​Queensland Coastal Pass​​

​​The most flexible, easy and versatile way to discover the east coast of Queensland by rail. 

Travel must be taken over a one-month duration, with unlimited stopovers in one direction between Brisbane and Cairns (or vice versa), it’s your ticket to the east coast's most popular destinations.

​Queensland Explorer Pass​​

See every corner of Queensland; from Cairns in the north, to Brisbane in the south and the Queensland outback that extends to Charleville, Longreach and Mount Isa.

Travel must be taken over a one or two month period, with unlimited stopovers in any direction across the entire Queensland Rail Travel long-distance network.

Backpacker rail fares and travel passes are only available for purchase by international visitors to Australia, including those on working holiday and student visas.
