A signature cultural event where music comes to life under Queensland’s outback sky. Welcome to Festival of Outback Opera! From 14 to 20 May 2024, Opera Queensland heads westward to the towns of Longreach and Winton. The goal is to bring together music lovers from around Australia and the world to indulge in big voices under big, beautiful skies. 

Offering a truly unique experience, the Festival of Outback Opera is a series of outdoor concerts in iconic locations. Events range from formal galas to casual nights in the pub. Dress to impress at the Gala or opt for a more laid-back vibe for singalongs. Whether under the stars for Dark Sky Serenade or indulging in an afternoon of delightful singing and fine dining at the Long Lunch – every event will be filled with unforgettable moments.​​

The flexibility of the program allows you to immerse yourself over a long weekend or completely commit to a full week of activities. While the space may be vast, the feeling is intimate, allowing audiences to explore opera in a highly accessible environment. 

Opera Queensland is teaming up with Queensland Rail Travel for a unique train experience aboard Spirit of the Outback alongside other like-minded travellers. Take in the glorious scenery as well as magnificent live opera performances on board the train and at stations! 

It’s the perfect way to begin or end your one-of-a-kind adventure. Outback Aussie Tours is also partnering with Opera Queensland to deliver this thrilling new eightday tour of Festival of Outback Opera. It’s quite simply an outback experience the city cannot match.​
